It is not always easy to draw a clear line between surgery supplies (German: Sprechstundenbedarf, SSB) and practice supplies (Praxisbedarf), as the rules differ from one Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KV) to another. Below we answer the most frequently asked questions.
Whether they are billed as surgery supplies or as practice supplies, all products are available both through our webshop and through our fastOrder app with its own inventory management. And for those who prefer not to order online, we also provide order lists to send by email or fax.

Surgery supplies (Sprechstundenbedarf)

Surgery supplies (SSB) are medicines, medical devices and other materials that a medical practice needs for the direct treatment of several patients within the scope of statutory health insurance care and that cannot be assigned individually to a single patient.

Typical product groups of surgery supplies include certain laboratory items such as urine test strips, products applied to patients such as dressings, suture material, local anaesthetics and skin disinfectants, as well as certain medical devices used for diagnosis or therapy, such as drains, urinary catheters, etc.
However, exactly which product groups count as surgery supplies and how they are to be billed is determined by each KV independently. There are therefore considerable differences between the individual KVs, and it is worth checking your KV portal from time to time, as the rules change. Here are the links:

Before ordering, please check which product groups your KV accepts as surgery supplies and whether there are any special prescription requirements – for example the use of prescription form 16a bay in Bavaria (form 16 everywhere else), restrictions to orders at the beginning of a quarter, specific prescription review processes before ordering, or the requirements of § 12 SGB V (principle of economic efficiency). This helps you and us avoid billing problems later on.

Practice supplies (Praxisbedarf)

“Practice supplies are everything a practice needs that is not surgery supplies.” We agree with this broad definition. Our ambition is to provide you with everything you need to run your practice – at fair prices.
